Well, had to write something on 12/12/12. I haven’t been very dedicated to my journal this year or any type of blogging. I do reflect mentally a lot of the time, however. I guess part of the reason I have done less writing is that things are good. Guess I should always also reflect in writing on the good as it is a reflection of gratitude. This has really been a great year. The extended family is doing well and personally I have done better about meeting goals this year that most any. My running mileage is higher that any year in recent history if ever. I think this is an accomplishment at 53. I have been more consistent this year. Probably would have had much higher mileage last year than this had I not had a femur stress fracture, which pretty much limited my running to half a year. I am however this year doing enough to stay in excellent shape and keep my head “right”.
I must say that I am extremely proud of both my son and daughter. Rad has really done well participating in sports and he is doing fairly well in school, though I doubt he will be near a Rhode Scholar. Amanda graduated and is working for the “Y”, while looking for a professional position and is currently interviewing for one. Grandson Caden unbelievably continues to grow at a rapid pace, when he at just now three is as big as some 5 year olds.
Christmas is on top of us. Though not religious, I do love the story and the meaning of the season. I wish that all Christians practiced the teachings instead of perverting the religion with their own ideas. Well, this is a special day. There will never be another with consecutive numbers like 12/12/12. Then again they are all special. I will do my job at work today. Go to the gym and do my 4 miles on the treadmill and come home and enjoy my family. Sounds like a good day.

Now I am Kicking

The stress fracture is history (I think) and I am once again in full training mode, though cautious. Did a 10K training run in under 2 hours yesterday at a 9:35 pace, so I am actually a bit ahead of my perceived training ability now. I did 5-4-6 mile runs this week, so I am doing ok. There is no pain in my thigh and that is a good sign, though I can still tell some difference.

I am watching my diet now and trying to maintain it so that I lose about 8 more lbs, to get at an ideal weight to continue my running and active life. Life is good.

Today, I am going to my sons two soccer friendlies in Franklin and will be coaching since his other team is in a tournament in AL. Think it will be loads of fun today. Well, I know it will.

Okay Already

Okayyy already. I am done, done, done, and starting, starting starting. Not everyone needs to know what that means, but it absolutely MUST mean something to me. Today, see above, I am going to drop the BS and start living. I can't merely exist by the computer waiting for the next shoe to drop. Though I don't quite really do this, it sometimes appears as such. I am going to begin doing and not thinking of what I am going to do. Such a long time with progress in such a circular path and moving forward at a progressive rate that is not totally fulfilling. Mind, Body and Spirit (Of the Universe and Within) will be the hallmarks of my life.

The stress fracture in my Femur has had me down for a while, but I am far from out. I will not do everything I can to recover from it and my sanity in general. Didn't post about my Half-Marathon in April, but it was a great first attempt on a hilly Nashville course in 2:05:15. The frustrating part is the resulting stress fracture that resulted I guess from over training. I can get on a bicycle and I can hike. Camping this weekend at Rock Island State park should be a great time to reach out and find the extra something.

Twists and Turns

Life just seems to be a series of twists and turns and when it stops twisting and turning I just have to do something to make the cycle reoccur. Another start of a school year in IT land and things have gone fairly smooth, which is likely the reason I am worn out or vise-versa. Just go with the flow.

Thinking

thinking.” -- A. A. Milne

First Day of 2011

Well, happy new year. I am beginning the new year slowly with the only primary “resolve” is to increase my fitness and nutrition and find peace. Now these may not seem measurable goals, though I have specifics in mind to which I WILL adhere. For one thing I will spend more time in retrospection and study as opposed to mindless internet activities. Now this also is part of my resolve. I guess to put it shortly 2011 is the year of TOTFIT and the beginning of the lifestyle. My goal for the day is to get a three mile run in and to get some things done around the house. I have already begun by working some in the “man cave” and will continue as the day goes on. Tomorrows goal will be church for one. I will be the best husband, father, son, relative and friend also that I can be. I will work on keeping anxieties to a minimum. Well, ran 4 miles on a cloudy day. It was a nice relaxing first day of the year. The intent of the run was for the Greenway which was flooded. I instead ran from the Greenway home and then a couple of laps around the block to make four miles.

Happy New Year

I start the new year with no "major" goals. I would just like to continue on the path on which I have chosen and improve generally. I guess in most aspects, "Life is Good". Hopefully, I will begin this year to put my thoughts more in writing, just not sure if here or elsewhere.. To all, a Happy New Year around the globe..

Sharks kill man at Florida beach - CNN.com

Well, my journey in March will take me not far from here. Hope my 8yo son doesn't see this. While this will raise hysteria, it is a phenomena compared to other things.

Grayton Tomorrow

Tomorrow the journey is to Grayton Beach State Park for a week of camping. I have had a busy school year thus far Tech-ing for the Teachers. I really enjoy it, but I am also really ready for a break. I will try and start blogging a bit more. Let's see where this journey takes us.

Life is Grand

Been quite some time since I have added a line or so. Life is as good as I could have really ever imagined. It is certainly not perfect, but is better than I could have asked for. Currently I am running about 12 miles a week and for the most part eat a good diet and have few bad habits. I do suffer from a bit of free floating anxiety, but am handling it currently with exercise and diet. I am looking forware to labor day weekend camping and going to Grayton Beach during Fall break. We will also be doing some weekend canoe trips down the Harpeth once we get over the start of school rush.

Four Weeks to Fifty Streak

Well, four weeks to fifty. I am currently making a streak this month to develope ingrained habits that will carry me through my next half century or whatever portion in which I thrive. I am at a better spot in my life as far as contentment for which I have ever been. I will focus on physical, spiritual, and mental/emotional balance as I strive to syc with the world. So, the adventure continues.

Still Journeying, Not Blogging

Still prodding forward, though haven't written "here" in a while. Trying to get still more consistant in the fitness real, though overall for a mid-lifer doing pretty good. I would say I would be considered doing pretty good for even most much younger. It is a crisis the level of inactivity accopanied by over-stuffing that prevades our society. Guess I just need to worry about myself and leave the rest of society out of it. (Though I have difficulties with this)

Just got over a weekend stomach "flu". My wife and I were both sick at the same time and Rad (our seven year old) for the most part managed without our assistance just fine. This weekend we are going to visit his sister Amanda in Kennesaw, GA. Looking forward to seeing her. Seems the only way we get to is to drive down. We will stay at the LaQuinta as they are readily agreeable to our "Puggle" Logan coming along. For the most part where we go, so does Logan.

Windows Live Writer?

Going to try and post with Windows Live Writer and see how this works, or if it works. This is just a post on a whim. Haven’t written much lately, so maybe I will bet in the mood.

Slow Start to New Year

Well, not off with a bang on my resolve for this new year, though that could be a good thing. It may well be best to build momentum as the year progresses. I am an all or nothing individual and I need to seek a bit more balance. I am in no hurry to make any changes at all, though I am seeking physical, diet, and spiritual changes and balance. I am for health and environmental reasons not eating red meat and I will eat a balanced moderate diet, while finding some daily physical activity. I would like to log 500 running miles this year if my body holds up. Just logged 300 only the past two years. We will see what happens.

Did start the year off at Collier-Seminole State Park, near Naples, FL. We had a blast. A very active vacation with running, bicycling, beach, and a 14 mile canoe trip along the Blackwater river and into the mouth of the bay. That is the way to start a year.

Happy New Year!

Well, just back from a great camping trip at Collier-Seminole State Park, near Naples, FL and the Everglades. We had a super time and got in quite a bit of physical activity. We canoed the Blackwater River for 14 miles and saw a variety of wildlife. New Years Eve was a mellow celebration with mainly Rad camp friends stopping by to visit. I ran for three days this week, a 5K each time. I look forward to following through on several "resolutions". Many which I have been working on for many years with some success. I am looking forward to getting the fine tuning done before my 50th birthday.

Ho, Ho, Ho!

Christmas Day is upon us. We have already done Santa and the unwrapping at home and are getting ready to go to my Dad's. I am grateful for the occurrances of the previous year and look forward to the next. We went to church last night and it was nice to actually experience a part of the holiday. Though I lean toward Pagan, I also enjoy the spirituality of my youth. I am looking forward to heading to the Everglades, Collier-Seminole State Park to begin the new year.

Indiana Cold

In Indiana right now visiting the in-laws and it is COLD. Makes me really look forward to the after Christmas trip south. I have just about had enough of the cold AND all of the food. I definitely have not been good thus far during the holiday season. Oh well, I will at 50 be the fittest I have EVER been. At least as fit. There is one point around 1991 that would be hard to surpass. Well, am enjoying the trip and time off at least, but still ready to head back south.

Happiest Holidays

Wow, listening to some music and hope that I can share it here. Getting me in the spirit. Though not a Christian by faith, I do believe in the practices. Hope it shows. Jamendo is a great resource.

Ready for the Holidays

I am truly ready for the holidays. Trying to make sure that I get all the work done that needs doing this week so that I will have a clear mind with which just to enjoy. I am getting off for two weeks and will be heading to the Everglades for a week after Christmas. For today the plan is work, pick up dog and work out. My goal is to get through the holidays and weigh in at less that 160 on New Years day. I want to work out and get to a weight that I am more comfortable running. I am looking at 145 to 147. There is no real hurry, though once again a goal is to be my fittest at 50, which will occur May 11 of next year. I do understand that fittest does not mean I will not have the aches, pains and loss of some muscle mass associated with being 50. :)
